What’s out there with Arizona high school bird mascots?

Not as many Arizona high school sports teams as you’d think use bird mascots, but as we’re covering (as best we can) all the animal mascots used in high school sports around the country, it seems worth a look.

We used Mascot DB as our main source, and apologize if we misspelled your school or left it out by mistake.

Arizona high school sports are governed by the Arizona Interscholastic Association, which also covers non-athletic activities as well.

What’s out there when it comes to Arizona high school bird mascots?

Unsurprisingly, there are 19 sets of Eagles throughout the state, as that tends to be the most common of bird mascots. Those schools are Colorado City El Capitan, Flagstaff, Glendale Ironwood, Glendale Joy Christian, Pinon, Phoenix Anthem Prep, Phoenix Country Day, Phoenix Horizon, Phoenix NFL Yet, Phoenix O’Connor, Phoenix West, Scottsdale Christian, Scottsdale Salt River, Sells Tohono O’Odham, Thatcher, Tucson Desert Christian, Tucson Santa Rita, Whiteriver East Fox Lutheran and Yuma Harvest Prep, while there are also the Phoenix Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles.

There are seven sets of Falcons in Cave Creek Cactus Shadows, Fountain Hills, Phoenix Hayden, Phoenix North Pointe, Phoenix Veritas Prep, Tucson Catalina Foothills and Whiteriver Alchesay.

There are seven groups of Hawks flying around as well, in Buckeye Union, Gilbert Highland, Glendale Apollo, Rio Rico, Tucson Gregory, Tucson Tanque Verde and Yuma Gila Ridge.

Hawk variants include the Scottsdale Foothills Blackhawks (one word), Gilbert Williams Field Black Hawks (two words), Glendale Deer Valley Skyhawks, and Tucson Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks.

There are also the Cardinals from Gilbert and St Michael, the Firebirds of Mesa Eastmark and Scottsdale Chaparral, the Tucson Empire Ravens, the Roadrunners from Holbrook and the Arizona School for the Deaf, the Avondale Agua Fina Owls and the Thunderbirds from Bullhead City Mohave and Phoenix Franklin.

Good luck to all the sports teams competing this year and stay safe this school year.
