Kirby the Texans Pup has a way of making friends, which he demonstrated on National Dog Day yesterday.

The yellow Labrador, who is being trained as a service dog with America’s VetDogs to hopefully help a veteran or first responder when he grows up, will spend time with the team for about 18 months or so during his basic training before going off to Puppy College.

This is a very impawtant career goal, and we wish him all the best. His adventures can be followed on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok at the handle @TexansPup.

On Thursday, August 26, which was of course National Dog Day, Kirby got to do a photoshoot with several Houston Texans cheerleaders, which is pretty doggone pawesome, if you ask us. (Not that we’re jealous or anything…)

Another of the famous Dogs of Twitter who has a bunch of friends is our friend Bark-Andre Furry, who has hung out with the Las Vegas Raiders and Vegas Golden Knights cheerleaders before.

Kirby also has attended the Texans training camp, particularly making friends with mascot Toro, defensive coordinator Lovie Smith and defensive back Desmond King and running back Phillip Lindsay.

One of the other Texans Pup’s friends is Olympic gymnast and Houston native Simone Biles, who recently returned from the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games.

Kirby is at least the third NFL service dog that we know of, following in the pawsteps of the Dallas Cowboys’ Puppy Dak and the Los Angeles Chargers’ Bolt the Bolts Pup.

Other NFL teams with a canine presence include the San Francisco 49ers with an emotional support on staff, the Cleveland Browns, who have a live mascot named Swagger Jr, and the Kansas City Chiefs, who have a mascot named KC Wolf.

The Texans open their 2021 NFL season at NRG Stadium on Sunday, September 12 at 1 p.m. ET against their AFC South division rivals in the  Jacksonville Jaguars, who boast Heisman winner Trevor Lawrence and college national champion coach Urban Meyer, both of whom are making their National Football League debuts.
