The AKC Down and Back podcast has returned for a second season.

Technically titled Down and Back: Stories from the American Kennel Club Archives, it is the official podcast of the American Kennel Club.

Hosted by AKC historian Bud Buccone, Down and Back podcast season 2 began on Friday, July 24 with an episode called “Top Dogs and Underdogs,” which looks at some of the most popular dog names of 2020. Other educational and interesting episodes upcoming in the second season include “How Dogs Become Recognized” (explaining how a breed becomes established enough to compete in AKC-sanctioned dog shows and other events), “Dogs of Myth and Legend ,” “Canine Heroes of 9/11” and “Form Follows Function.”

“No one tells a story quite like Bud Buccone,” AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo said in a press release. “We’re thrilled at how well-received season one was and we cannot wait to continue bringing the world of dogs to people in this way.”

The AKC Down and Back podcast season 2 is now live across all streaming platforms.

The title, “down and back,” is a phrase from the conformation world where the judge is able to evaluate the movements of a dog, to see how closely they match the ideal specifications for their breed.

The first season consisted of eight episodes, covering topics from the sport of dog obedience to famous canines of stage and screen and endangered breeds that have been restored to substantial numbers. First Pets and military dogs also get their own episodes as well.

Additionally in the world of dog podcasts, our columnist Holland the Pup‘s dad, Adam Vosding, got to appear on the Dog Stories podcast earlier this year, sharing their journey across the country.
