What better way is there to celebrate Christmas in July than with cookies? And with these cookies we get to spoil our pups for this howliday.

While searching for fun ways to include our dogs in Christmas in July celebrations, we came across a collection of recipes from Bring Fido that included an epic recipe for Sugar Cookies (without all the sugar) that are perfect for the holidays, Christmas in July, or even just as a treat any day of the year.

And since we love the idea of using cookie cutters on sugar cookies, especially when baking up holiday cookies, why not break out the Christmas cutters and turn these sugar cookies into the perfect holiday treat this July?

These Howliday Sugar Cookies are a perfect dog treat no matter when we bake them up. And whether we stick to round cookies or cut them into fun shapes like stars, trees, or bells, these are perfect for our summer celebration of the holidays.

Christmas in July gets the cookie treatment for our dogs with this recipe for Sugar Cookies

With just six ingredients and about five steps in the process, these Howliday cookies are perfect for right now!

What you need:

  • 2 cups of unbleached flour (you can also use whole wheat flour)
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of water
  • 1 cup of peanut butter (make sure you use a peanut butter that does not contain xylitol)
  • 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt (make sure the yogurt doesn’t contain xylitol either)
  • Cinnamon and Sugar for dusting (although you could skip this or just choose the cinnamon)

What to do:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and then take a cookie sheet and either spray it with a cooking spray or line with parchment paper. In a bowl, combine all of the ingredients until it forms a soft dough. (If it feels too dry, add a bit more water to the mix.)

Roll out the dough into sheet on a floured surface and cut out into your holiday shapes (or you could use dog-themed cookie cutters). Place the cut out cookies on your cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges have browned. Remove from the oven and dust with your cinnamon and sugar, cinnamon, or nothing depending on preference.

Make sure the cookies cool before letting your pup enjoy. But if you are planning a pup-friendly Christmas in July party, baking ahead will probably be the way to go anyway.
