When it comes to baking, we want to share what we make with all of our loved ones. And that includes the dog. And with this recipe for dog treats, we actually can. In fact, this is one recipe that is even human friendly.
While there are plenty of dog treats on the market, sometimes you want to make your own. Whether this is because you are trying something new or want to make sure you know exactly what your pup is eating, it doesn’t really matter. We love the idea of baking up goodies for our pups as much as we like baking things for ourselves.
Luckily, with this recipe for blueberry muffins from Bring Fido, we not only get dog treats our pups will love, but we also get a treat that we can eat. (The real question is whether we actually want to eat these dog treats in the form of blueberry muffins.)
Easy to make blueberry muffin dog treats
With this recipe, you will be able to whip up 24 mini muffins that will have your pup licking their chops and waiting for more.
What you need:
- 1/2 cup of rolled oats
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt (You can also substitute with vanilla Greek yogurt)
- 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce
What to do:
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In a food processor, grind up the rolled oats and baking powder together until you have a fine powder. Add in the egg, yogurt, applesauce and lemon juice. Pulse everything together until your wet and dry ingredients are combined. Next gently stir in the blueberries, but don’t over stir as you don’t want to bust the berries.
Spray a mini muffin tin with cooking spray and then fill the muffin cups up about 3/4 of the way. Top with a fresh blueberry. Bake your muffins for 10 to 13 minutes.
Before serving, especially to your pup, make sure you allow the muffins to cool. And remember that the berries will retain the heat longer. You can store these blueberry muffin dog treats in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, but they may not last that long depending on if you have humans eating these treats too.
After whipping these up ourselves, we know that these mini muffins are dog approved, even with a picky pup. And yes, we tried them ourselves. (But in our case butter was involved and it was still warm out of the oven.)
