The new HouseBroken TV series is debuting on Fox on Monday, May 31.
Part of their Animation Domination lineup, HouseBroken looks like if you threw The Secret Life of Pets in a blender with The Simpsons.
Foremost among the cast is Lisa Kudrow (Easy A, Friends), who voices a white Standard Poodle named Honey, who is also a therapy dog, functioning much like a psychiatrist for her friends and family.
Other characters include Honey’s husband Chief the St Bernard (Nat Faxon), Tabitha the aging show cat (Sharon Hogan) Tabitha’s crush Lyle (Jason Mantzoukas of Parks and Recreation and The Good Place), an innocent tabby cat named Chico (Sam Richardson), Elsa the power-mad Corgi (Clea Duvall) and a terrier named Diablo (Tony Hale of Toy Story 4) who struggles with OCD.
Other, non-dog or cat characters include Max, a pet pig of George Clooney (also Hale),
The HouseBroken TV series is the latest Fox animated show, featuring pets as main characters.
Recurring characters include Nibbles the psychopathic hamster (Bresha Webb), Bubbles the goldfish (Greta Lee), who enjoys heckling people, and Maria Bamford as Honey’s and Chief’s human owner Jill.
HouseBroken is created by Duvall, Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan, and it looks like episode titles will all be questions, typically beginning with “Who?” For example, the premiere episode will be titled “Who’s a Good Girl?”
Duvall was the director of the recent breakout Hulu holiday romcom Happiest Season, while Crittenden has written episodes of The Simpsons and Seinfeld, among others.
While this is a cartoon starring animals, it’s probably not the kind of thing you want to watch around kids – the subject matter dealt with (even if it is a sitcom) is quite a bit more grown-up than Phineas and Ferb.
