The 2021 Golden Globes saw some pet-related content do well on Sunday night on NBC as former Saturday Night Live castmates Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted the mostly-Zoomed telecast.

While in our opinion Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s seat-filler Tobillo and Jodie Foster’s camera-shy Yorkie Ziggy were some of the highlights, there was some actual pet-related nominees and winners during the show as well, which is fun.

The Pixar movie Soul, starring Jamie Foxx as a aspiring jazz musician named Joe and Tiny Fey as 22, a cynical soul afraid to live on Earth, won Best Animated Feature Film, while its composers Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Jon Baptiste collectively won Best Original Score.

An important minor character in the film’s plot is a therapy cat named Mr Tickles, whose body is temporarily inhabited by Joe (Foxx).

What pet-related content did well at the 2021 Golden Globes?

Best Animated Feature saw a lot of pet-related content, as Soul won the category, while fellow Pixar stablemate Onward (a fantasy starring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland as brothers) and the Apple TV Plus original Wolfwalkers were also nominated.

There are not any dogs or cats explicitly part of the Onward story, though a character is a manticore (a lion-scorpion mythological creature), and the family has a pet dragon named Blazey in the place of a dog.

Wolfwalkers follows a little girl in Ireland and her adventures with a new werewolf friend she makes in the nearby forest, crafted by the studio Cartoon Saloon. It uses a traditional animation style, and the most recognizable actor for American audiences is Sean Bean (Patriot Games, The Lord of the Rings, National Treasure).
