Super Bowl 55 teams: Why dog lovers should cheer for each
Both Super Bowl 55 teams are both good, but here’s why you should root for Kansas City.
Obviously, they’re super talented, with pass catchers like tight end Travis Kelce, receivers Mecole Hardman and Tyreek Hill, and a rookie running back in Clyde Edwards-Helaire (and veteran tailback Leveon Bell backing him up), while on defense they have fearsome safety Tyrann Mathieu. On the sidelines is head coach Andy Reid, who has faced Tom Brady in this game before while with the Philadelphia Eagles (New England won Super Bowl 39 in 2004 by a 24-21 score).
In general, they just blaze right past opposing defenses, and signal caller Patrick Mahomes has been known to pull some insane ad-libs as well, including throwing passes with the wrong hand.
According to KC Kingdom site expert (editor) Leigh Oleszczak, one of the storylines to keep an eye on that may impact Kansas City’s chances include the accuracy of kick Harrison Butker, who excels from long range but has issues with shorter distances. Another is the health of receiver Sammy Watkins, and several members of the starting offensive line will be missing the game due to the pandemic.
For the dog lovers, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his fiancee have several pit bulls, some of whom made it onto a bobblehead with him, which is pretty cool. Also, defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi has a habit of donating to a local animal shelter after every Kansas City victory.
There is also the mascot, KC Wolf, and wolves are pretty great canines as far as we’re concerned.
Also, our poetic Dog Twitter buddy Perfect Parker (@PerfectParker4) is a big Chiefs fan, so that’s another good reason for the Kansas City canine contingent.
Our columnist Holland the Pup has attended a tailgate party at Arrowhead, and she was very impressed with the hospitality of the Kansas City fans and cheerleaders and all of the tailgaters’ culinary skills.
Of course, there are also some reasons why you shouldn’t; Kansas City is largely known for its barbeque, and if you’re a vegan, that might not be your thing. Also, they just won, so maybe it’s time for another team to win. Finally, some say that the nickname “Chiefs,” or at least its use with Native American imagery like an arrowhead, is offensive.
