A stray dog was rescued during a Formula 1 event last week.
While the US was celebrating Thanksgiving last week on November 26, for the rest of the world it was another Thursday. This meant that the Formula 1 season was wrapping up the 2020 season at the Bahrain International Circuit for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
During Formula 1’s second practice session, Red Bull driver Alex Albon wrecked, bringing out a lengthy red flag. Just as drivers were preparing to go back on track, several spotted a stray dog on track, according to Motorsport.
According to the track’s Twitter account, the smallish blonde female dog was captured by the Bahrain Animal Rescue Centre and taken to the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where she will hopefully soon be adopted.
As of that update, the dog had not been adopted just yet, nor did she have a name, though something car-related seems like it would be appropriate.
The actual qualifying and race on Saturday night were quite normal results-wise – British driver and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes captured the pole and won the event – but it was marred by a tremendous accident for French driver Roman Grosjean of Haas F1, which literally saw his No. 8 Haas Automation car snap in half after hitting a guardrail before turning into a colossal fireball.
This greatly overshadowed the story of the cute dog being rescued from a potential grisly fate. for obvious reasons.
Thankfully Grosjean is all right, suffering only minor burns, but he will not race in the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend, also held at the Bahrain International Circuit using an alternate track layout. Hamilton will not race in his No. 44 Petronas machine, either, as he just tested positive for COVID.
Grosjean’s team of Haas F1 is the sister organization of NASCAR team Stewart-Haas Racing, which Chase Briscoe drives for.
