Peanuts fans have gathered over 100,000 signatures on petition to bring holiday specials back to TV

I WANT A DOG FOR CHRISTMAS, CHARLIE BROWN! - This holiday season, ABC once again airs the PEANUTS Christmas special "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown," produced and animated by the same team that gave us the other, now classic cartoon specials based on Charles M. Schulz's famed comic strip. "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" airs SUNDAY, DEC. 22 (7:00-8:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" centers on ReRun, the lovable but ever-skeptical younger brother of Linus and Lucy. It's Christmas vacation and, as usual, ReRun's big sister is stressing him out, so he decides to turn to his best friend, Snoopy, for amusement and holiday cheer. However, his faithful but unpredictable beagle companion has plans of his own, giving ReRun reason to ask Snoopy to invite his canine brother Spike for a visit. When Spike shows up, it looks like ReRun will have a dog for Christmas after all - but then the real trouble begins. (© 2003 United Feature Syndicate Inc.)

Fans petition to get Peanuts specials back on network TV

On Oct. 19, Apple TV+ and the Peanuts social media accounts revealed that the holiday specials featuring Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and all of their friends would not be airing on network TV in 2020, but would rather be available exclusively on the streaming platform. It did not take long for Peanuts fans to start speaking out against this news, and they have since been able to gather more than 100,000 signatures on a petition to get the holiday specials back on network TV.

According to Pop Culture, after the news broke fans immediately took to Change.org in order to create a petition to demand that all of the holiday specials that we know and love come back to television, although it is likely too late for the Halloween special, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Since starting the petition, more than 120,000 people had signed it as of Oct. 27, which is certainly impressive for something like this.

Fans want their Peanuts specials back on TV

Although it is unlikely that the Peanuts specials will return to our TVs, it does seem that Apple TV+ is trying to make it easy for everyone to get their holiday entertainment fix. That’s because the streaming service is apparently offering people a chance to watch the holiday specials for free, even if you are not a subscriber.

However, in order to watch these specials you only have a few days to make that happen. It seems that from Oct. 30 until Nov. 1, anyone can watch the Peanuts specials, even if they are not subscribers of the service.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to watch all of the holiday specials in a weekend just because they are only available on a streaming service now. Of course, that is the entire point of the current petition, as fans are doing whatever they can to try to get their Charlie Brown and Snoopy fix for the holidays.

What do you think of the current petition? Do you think anything will change because of it? Tell us what you think in the comments.
