5 Netflix alternatives to It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

In 2020, we aren’t even a little bit surprised to learn that we won’t be able to watch the Peanuts specials, such as It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, on network TV. And while we know there is no way to replace this iconic program, that doesn’t mean we can’t try to find something to get us into the spirit of Halloween, especially with the help of Netflix and their vast catalogue of movies, TV shows, and specials.

As someone who loves all things Halloween and spooky, it’s not like I don’t watch these kind of spooky, haunted, and fun seasonal programs all year long. However, there is something special about actually watching these types of movies and shows during the season itself. And while not getting to enjoy It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is the kind of heartbreak we have come to expect out of 2020, we aren’t letting that stop us from finding something else to watch to celebrate the spooky season.

We are going to miss Snoopy, Linus, Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang, but for now, we need new Halloween specials. So here are five programs on Netflix that might just be a good alternative to It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown to get through the season.

5. Dreamworks Spooky Stories

If you loved Shrek or the Monsters Inc crew, then you need to give Dreamworks Spooky Stories a watch. We are talking about ghostly stories featuring some of our favorite Dreamworks characters. If that’s not enough to have you watching this fun, but a bit haunted, anthology of stories I don’t know what is.

4. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island

Honestly, if we can’t have Snoopy for Halloween, the least we can do is enjoy some Scooby-Doo. These two pups have been gracing us with their presence for decades and that means that if we can’t have one, we can at least enjoy another mystery with the Scooby gang in Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Bring on the next, great mystery!

3. Pac’s Scary Halloween

I think the best part of Pac’s Scary Halloween besides how much fun it is, is the fact that there is actually a character named Dr. Pacenstein. And while the pup in this one is definitely fierce and scary in his own way (bring on the Cerberus), it doesn’t matter because all dogs are good boys and girls! This could become a new favorite for someone and that seems worth adding it the list alone.

2. ParaNorman

It may not be at classic status like It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is, but ParaNorman is the kind of movie that is fun, spooky, and perfect for Halloween. When an army of zombies threatens their town, it is up to the oddball Norman and his new collection of friends (how can you not be friends in the face of zombies) to save everyone.

1. Ghost Patrol

The Ghost Patrol won me over when I realized that the team included a dog. And seriously, I am always here for a mansion that is described as both old and spooky, meaning there has to be a ghost or two floating around. This is one of those kid friendly movies that is bound to entertain young and old alike. Or maybe that’s just me and I like the fun, kid movies around this time of year to go along with the scary, horror movies.

There is no real way to replace It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. However, there are still some fun alternatives that will leave us entertained and more in the Halloween spirit than if we skipped this annual tradition all together.
