How did the canine schools of NCAA’s Division I do during 2020 Week 5 of the college football season?

As always, the football dogs of Instagram were out in full force chilling on the couch or running around in the backyard, hoping their teams would do well.

2020 Week 5 started for our purposes on Friday, October 2, as Conference USA’s Louisiana Tech Bulldogs were thumped during a trip out west, falling 45-14 to the independent No. 22 BYU Cougars. Lousiana Tech falls to 2-1 on the season.

On Saturday, October 3, Reveille the Collie‘s No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies were visiting Tuscaloosa for the CBS afternoon game, only to be destroyed by the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide by a 52-24 score. A&M falls to 1-1 on the season, and the SEC is only playing conference games.

Uga’s No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs faced the No. 7 Auburn Tigers in the ESPN night game, welcoming a horde of fans to Sanford Stadium in the process, and UGA won 27-6, improving to 2-0.

Smokey the Coonhound’s No. 21 Tennessee Volunteers were victorious, 35-12,  at home against the Missouri Tigers, moving to 2-0.

In an SEC West matchup, Bully’s No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs were upset 21-14 by the visiting Arkansas Razorbacks, dropping to 1-1.

In the ACC, the North Carolina State Wolfpack narrowly squeaked out of Pittsburgh with a 30-29 win over the No. 24 Pitt Panthers. NC State is now 2-1.

In the Sun Belt, the Arkansas State Red Wolves were trampled by the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 52-23, falling to 1-2, 0-1. Coastal Carolina’s mascot is named after the rooster from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and they occasionally sponsor NASCAR racer and alumnus Brandon Brown.

Now moving on to the vet schools that play D-I football…

In the SEC, the No. 3 Florida Gators triumphed 38-24 over the South Carolina Gamecocks at the Swamp, improving to 2-0, which Holland the Pup is quite happy about.

The No. 20 LSU Tigers sank the Vanderbilt Commodores 41-7 in Nashville, improving to 1-1.

In the ACC, the Virginia Tech Hokies (Rookie the Batdog’s college team) defeated the Duke Blue Devils 38-31, improving to 2-0. Duke doesn’t have a vet med program, but their Canine Cognition Center is well-known, so they might ought to be included here each week as well. Anyway, they fell to 0-4 on the season.

In the Big 12, the No. 17 Oklahoma State Cowboys cruised to a 47-7 win over the Kansas Jayhawks, taking first place with a 3-0, 2-0 record.
