2020 Week 3 saw a little more canine schools take the field.

2020 Week 3 didn’t see a huge amount of canine schools take the college football field, but slowly but surely the season is getting underway.

As always, the football dogs of Instagram are watching from the living room couch or kitchen tailgate, cheering on their favorite teams.

The action started on Saturday, September 19, as The Citadel Bulldogs, from the FCS Southern Conference, were predictably trounced by the mighty No. 1 Clemson Tigers of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and fall to 0-2 so far in their 2020 college football season.

In a Conference USA matchup, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs triumphed 31-30 over the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles to improve to 1-0, both on the year and in conference, since several of their games have been postponed already.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 45-42 in their season opener, an ACC matchup for one of the only schools with vet med programs that were playing this weekend.

Due to a COVID outbreak, the Sun Belt Conference’s Arkansas State Red Wolves were unable to play their scheduled home game against the Southland Conference’s Central Arkansas Panthers.

Among non-canine mascot schools with vet med programs, the only team playing in 2020 Week 3 were the Big 12 Conference’s No. 11 Oklahoma State Cowboys, who overcame a shaky start to prevail 16-7 at home in Stillwater over the American Athletic Conference’s Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

The Southeastern Conference should get underway in 2020 Week 4, which will add significantly to the canine schools mentioned in this roundup, through canine mascots and vet schools. Also, it was announced that the Big Ten Conference changed their minds and decided to play a partial season beginning in late October, so that will add to the vet schools as well.
