The Scoob DVD release date takes place…..when?

The Scoob DVD release date has been something members of the Scooby-Doo fandom have been wondering about since the film, more of a superhero parody than an actual mystery, released straight to video on May 17.

As big fans of dog movies in general, the staff of Dog O’Day is very excited about this news.

As found on the Target website, a Scoob DVD/digital combo pack is set for release on July 21 and is currently available for pre-order for $18.39. Special features include a featurette on how to draw everyone’s favorite anthropomorphic Great Dane detective.

Given the rather high immediate streaming price ($19.99 to rent, $24.99 to immediately purchase), that scared off some potential audience members, who will now get to enjoy and critique it for themselves once they buy the Scoob DVD. Also, a lot of people (myself included) prefer physical copies of CDs, DVDs and video games.

Starring the voices of Zac Efron, Will Forte, Gina Rodriguez, Amanda Seyfried, Mark Wahlberg and Frank Welker, the movie explains how the Mystery Inc team met, while setting the stage for a potential Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe.

While Dog O’Day contributor Sandy enjoyed the film, longtime fans of the franchise had a more mixed reaction.

While she had plenty of gripes about the quality of the story choices, longtime fan and rescue dog advocate Andi Scaletta is still thrilled to know the DVD release date – it’s easy to remember, as it falls on her birthday, which is just awesome.

Promotional tie-ins include a Playmobil Mystery MachineScooby-Doo themed Converse, and free digital copies of comics, while the Studio C sketch comedy series played into the trending topic with a sketch based on lovingly skewering the absurdity of the classic premise of the franchise.

If you have a subscription to the relatively new HBO Max streaming service, then you can catch Scoob on there as part of its library of content.

Will you be grabbing the Scoob DVD when it releases?
