Muttley should have been at Dick Dastardly’s side in new Scoob! movie
With the new Scoob! movie bringing aboard some classic Hanna-Barbera characters, they missed out on the chance to bring Dick Dastardly’s sidekick, Muttley into the picture.
If you grew up watching Hanna-Barbera cartoons, then you might be familiar with Dick Dastardly already. While he made an epic appearance in the new Scoob! movie, there was definitely something missing from the picture. And what was missing was Dastardly’s sidekick, Muttley.
Over the years, Muttley has wormed his way into our hearts, so seeing the Scoob! movie leaving him on the sidelines is a bit of a disappointment. It almost feels like the movie missed out on an opportunity to bring another pup to a new generation of viewers.
The thing about Muttley is that while he may be a villain’s sidekick, he is still a very good boy with an iconic laugh. And it is that laugh which made us miss this pup even more than we would have ever thought.
Muttley’s wheezing laugh has always been a major part of any misadventure that he and Dick Dastardly would get up to. And of course, he was always a perfect foil to Dastardly, helping him without necessarily helping him.
Even without speaking, although he certainly does have a good grumble going on, Muttley has made a lasting impression as an epic cartoon character. Whether he is laughing at something Dick Dastardly has done (usually failing at whatever dastardly thing he has gotten up to), or grumbling at him in disdain, this is one pup with a lot of character. And he is a perfect companion to this villain.
Having him missing in action in the Scoob! movie meant that our villain was without his right hand pup. And that is rather sad. Even if he is a villain, he deserves to have his dog at his side too.
Hopefully if a cinematic universe featuring Hanna-Barbera characters does happen, we will get to see Muttley making a reappearance on our screens. After all, we will take all the good boys we can get.
