If you need to know why a pup is man’s best friend, watch Scoob!, now available on VOD. On second thought, just watch it anyway for the nostalgia!
Did you grow up watching Scooby-Doo and the gang as a kid? Dog O’Day sure did, why do you think we love dogs so much around here? The Scooby-Doo cartoons (all versions and movies of the character) are great and feature one of the best cartoon doggies in the animated world. Scooby and his best friend Shaggy never fail to put a smile on our face, so we couldn’t wait for the VOD premiere of Scoob!.
The movie brings back the Mystery Inc. crew that consists of Shaggy (Will Forte), Scooby (Frank Welker), Fred (Zac Efron), Velma (Gina Rodriguez), and Daphne (Amanda Seyfried). Scoob! picks up from the moment Shag meets Scooby as a pup, the duo later meet Fred, Velma, and Daphne. After a scary encounter with someone trying to pass off as a ghost, they become mystery solvers!
Unfortunately, the movie is going to be hit and miss with young and old fans alike. While I enjoyed it, I was hoping to love it. It simply doesn’t bring back the silly vibes or happy feels the original cartoons effortlessly deliver.
Scoob! does have a few laughs, mostly when they poke fun at Fred’s lack of intelligence (which I’m still on the fence about) or bring up a current events we can relate too. Other than that, there are no silly jumpscares, not nearly enough mysteries, and I don’t even think anyone ever offers Scooby a Scooby snack!
Still, that doesn’t mean the movie isn’t worth watching. I do believe a young audience who isn’t familiar with the characters will enjoy it a lot more. Scoob! works for those watching with fresh eyes, but those who already know and love Scooby are better off sticking with the original cartoons.
This isn’t to say there’s nothing to enjoy about Scoob!. Shaggy and Scooby are still the heart of the movie and that’s what we love so much about this duo, their friendship!
Scoob! reminds us how much it matters to have a four-legged pal on our side and how their love for us is unconditional! If you have always loved Shaggy and Scooby, watch Scoob! with the family this weekend!
