We all know pet owners love their furry family members. But did you know they were likely to spend over $100 on them for the holidays?
Whether you are a dog lover or more of a cat person, pet owners love their furry family members. And when it comes to the holidays, this means making sure that they don’t miss out on the gift receiving portion of the season.
Thanks to data compiled by Truist (formerly SunTrust), we know exactly how much pet owners are expected to spend on their fur babies and even what items are most likely to be purchased for the holidays.
It turns out that most pet parents will be spending around $137 on their pets (which is not nearly as much as we were actually expecting honestly). And if you are wondering what they are buying – it seems that new toys and treats are the go-to options this holiday season.
Does this number surprise you? We have talked in the past about how much money dog lovers spend on their pups and even how many people are going into debt for their animals, so it actually doesn’t come as a big surprise that pet owners are spending over $100 this holiday season.
A financial well-being executive at Truist, Brian Nelson Ford, explained that it makes sense that pet owners would be spending this kind of money on their animals, as we consider them important members of our family. According to Ford, “Gifts for pets, friends, neighbors and other obligations can add to the pressure when the spending is unplanned. It’s important to be upfront about what we care about, and build our holiday spending plan to enjoy the memory-making moments of the holidays.”
And as dog lovers ourselves, we wanted to know if dog owners are leading the way when it comes to spending a lot of money on our pets. It turns out that we do (of course).
The survey determined that 59 percent of dog owners are spending money on their pups for the holidays versus just 34 percent of cat parents. And honestly, we aren’t surprised by this either.
We love our dogs and we want them to be spoiled. From outfits just for them to special beds and toys, we want our pups to feel special. And the holiday season is no different. After all, for many of us, our dogs are just as much a beloved member of the family as anyone else we are related to.
Are you surprised by this data? Do you think you will be buying gifts for your dog this season? What will you be buying (if the answer is yes)? Tell us what you think in the comments.
