How accurate were our 2019 National Dog Show predictions?

Part of the fun of major dog shows is attempting to pick the group winners beforehand. It’s not an exact science, but it’s interesting. How accurate were the Dog O’Day staff’s picks during the 2019 National Dog Show predictions?

Not very, unfortunately. But the 2019 National Dog Show presented by Purina, the 18th edition of the Thanksgiving tradition, was another great show.

In the Herding Group, I (Wesley) went with the Australian Shepherd, while Kimberley went with the Border Collie. Both of these picks seem very solid, but an Old English Sheepdog named Sophia won, making the score so far Wes 0, Kimberley 0.

The Hound Group was won by a Pharaoh Hound called Maddie, which didn’t help much, as Kimbeley picked the Dachshund to win while I went with the Whippet. Score: 0-0 still.

The Non-Sporting Group was won by Thor the Bulldog, much to the delight of many Bulldogs on Twitter. I picked the Schipperke, though I mentioned it would be fun for a Bulldog to pull off the pupset. Kimberley went with the Chow Chow.

Daniel the Golden Retriever won the Sporting Group, which I correctly picked, while Kimberley picked the equally-perfect Labrador Retriever. Wes 1, Kimberley 0.

A Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier named Blaine actually won the Terrier Group, while both our site experts picked the Norwich Terrier to triumph.

In the Toy Group, I picked the Yorkie, while Kimberley went with the Pomeranian. Bono the Havanese crushed his competitors again in this group, which is reasonable – he’s the No. 1 dog not only in his breed, but in this whole category.

The Working Group was claimed by a Chinese Siberian Husky named Nick, I picked the Boxer while Kimberley went with the Akita.

Final score this time, Wes 1, Kimberley 0. Hopefully more of the staff will play next time, which will be the 2019 AKC National Championship.
