The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is sorting shelter dogs into Harry Potter houses.

The Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando is combining two of our favorite things: dogs and Harry Potter.

They are sorting shelter dogs into the Hogwarts houses with a punny twist, of course, which we also love.

Instead of organizing their kennel by breed, they sort them into Pawgwarts houses to encourage adoptions based on personality rather than breed.

Dogs who pick up new obedience tasks are sorted into Ravenpaw, for the smart ones. Dogs who excel at agility obstacles have the ambition of Slobberin. If they are curious about new things, people and experiences, then they’re a brave Gryffindog, while generally friendly pups go in Hufflefluff.

They include a quiz on their website to help you figure out what house your dog goes into.

(The actual Hogwarts houses from JK Rowling’s novels consist of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.)

Our staff dog Banjo was sorted into Slobberin, whose members are known for being ambitious, cunning, resourceful and a good leader.

Staff dog Troy is a Hufflefluff, whose members are known for being loyal, patient and inclusive.

As a group of bookworms and nerds, our human staff wholeheartedly loves this idea and think more shelters should consider something similar.

Dog O’Day learned of this effort through our friends at FanSided Network sister site FoodSided, some of whom live in the Orlando area.

Since its founding in 1937 as the Orlando Humane Society, the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando has sought to improve the lives of animals in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties, “doing good things for dogs and cats and the people who love them,” as their website states.

Over seven thousand dogs and cats are helped each year at the no-kill facilities, which consist of two shelters and three veterinary clinics.
