The first trailer for the 2019 Lady and the Tramp dropped in the midst of an avalanche of new details about DIsney Plus.

The first trailer for the 2019 Lady and the Tramp was released during the D23 Expo in the midst of an avalanche of new information about Disney Plus, most of which has been related to new Marvel Cinematic Universe content.

The first poster was released Friday afternoon, August 23, which prominently features the famous spaghetti scene outside Tony’s restaurant.

The trailer, which dropped Friday night, proves that while the remake will match most of the 1955 original, there will be some new elements as well.

The opening shot sweeping in on Jim Dear and Darling’s (Thomas Mann and Kiersey Clemons) house is identical, though the scene on the boat is new. It will keep the early twentieth century setting as well.

Thor: Ragnarok’s Tessa Thompson will voice Lady the Cocker Spaniel, while Justin Theroux (Justin the cool lawyer on Parks and Rec) will voice the Tramp, a stray mutt.

A female voice sings an orchestral, far more dramatic rendition of “Belle Notte,” which makes the segment of dialogue we hear, from the meet cute scene where they meet a little ludicrous in how solemn the exchange is.

Thompson’s Lady seems far more serious and less naive than Barbara Luddy’s portrayal, and Theroux’s Tramp seems to be lacking the happy-go-lucky attitude, which would make sense given the daily pressures of existence that would come as a homeless doggo.

We also see quite a lot of Jim Dear and Darling’s faces, which is a change from the original, as all scenes where they are present are shot from Lady-height.

We also see Trusty the Bloodhound (Sam Elliott of The Ranch) and the Scottish Terrier Jackie, a genderswapped version of the original Jacques voiced by Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty).

Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) and Janelle Monae (Hidden Figures) will play the Tramp’s pound buddies Bull and Peg.

The 2019 Lady and the Tramp will be available exclusively on Disney Plus starting when the service opens on November 12, 2019.
