The Cleveland Browns are doing their part in helping the community through the Browns Puppy Pound program.

The Cleveland Browns are helping their community through the Browns Puppy Pound program, which has helped 442 dogs find furever homes since 2015.

Here at Dog O’Day, we learned of this program through the Washington Post.

The Browns have teamed with the Northeast Ohio SPCA to form the Browns Puppy Pound, and the program’s sponsor, Sugardale Foods, recently donated $5,000 to the program, which has found homes for 82 puppies this year.

The Northeast Ohio SPCA is a no-kill shelter based in the Cleveland suburb of Parma, and some of those puppies got to get their football fix in last week by visiting the Browns training camp in Berea, Ohio.

“The Northeast Ohio SPCA is humbled to receive such a generous donation from Sugardale,” Jeff Kocian, Northeast Ohio SPCA executive director, said in a press release on the team’s website.

“Our shelter is determined to turn the lives of shelter animals around by helping them find a forever home that will love them and accept them as part of their family.”

FirstEnergy Stadium is nicknamed the Dawg Pound, after a rowdy fan group with the same name, and the Browns have a chocolate Lab named Chomps as the team’s primary mascot, with a live mascot named Swagger.

The Browns have been one of the NFL’s least-successful teams since their reincarnation in 1999, but with the drafting of Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield and the addition of former New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr, they could be contenders in the AFC North this season, especially as the Pittsburgh Steelers age.
