Who won the 2019 Lawton Dog Fanciers Association Dog Show?

The Lawton Dog Fanciers Association dog show was held in conjunction with other shows put on by the Oklahoma City Kennel Club and the Mid-Del-Tinker Kennel Club (Midwest City, Del City and Tinker Air Force Base) during the 2019 OKC Summer Classic Canine Olympics several weeks ago.

The show was broadcast live on AKC.tv from the Bennett Event Center at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds on on Saturday, June 29, with a grand total of 2,058 dogs entered.

AKC Vice President Gina Dinardo and Bill Ellis were the announcers.

Herding Group

Pembroke Welsh Corgi called Dottie (officially GCHS Coventry Good Vibrations), handled by Bill Shelton, scored a point for the girls as she took the Herding Group.

Others placing in this group were an Australian Cattle Dog, a Bouvier and a Cardigan Welsh Corgi.

Hound Group

An Afghan Hound called Finn (registered as GCHP Agha Djara Fifth Dimension of Sura), handled by Alicia Morrison Jones, won the Hound Group.

Finishing second through fourth in the category were a Saluki, a Borzoi and Beverly Hills Dog Show Best in Show winner Bourbon the Whippet.

Non-Sporting Group

A Standard Poodle called Steeler (officially GCHS Dawin Steal My Heart), handled by Sarah Perchick, claimed the Non-Sporting Group.

Steeler defeated a Schipperke, an American Eskimo Dog and an English Bulldog to claim the category.

Sporting Group

The Sporting Group was claimed by a Gordon Setter from Houston called Murray  (registered as GCHS Saranac Tipsy Laird), who was handled by Christopher Keith. The Gordon Setter was one of the original breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club at its founding.

Murray beat out a German Shorthaired Pointer, a Labrador Retriever and a Viszla for the top spot.

Terrier Group

A Norwich Terrier called Isaac (GCHP Roserocks My Eyes Adored You), handled by Taffe McFadden, won the Terrier Group. A fan favorite from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Isaac won the category in the 2018 AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin last December.

Finishing second through fourth in the category were a Sealyham Terrier, a Scottish Terrier and a West Highland White Terrier.

Toy Group

Havanese called Bono (GCHP Oestes In the Name of Love) won the Toy Group, handled by Taffe McFadden. The No. 1 Toy dog right now, Bono claimed the category in both the 2019 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and the Beverly Hills Dog Show presented by Purina.

Also placing in this group were a Brussels Griffon, Pomeranian and an Affenpinscher.

Working Group

A Boxer called Wilma (GCHP Cinnibons Bedrock Bombshell), handled by Michael Shepherd, claimed the Working Group.

Wilma is the No. 2 Working dog in the country, and she claimed the category in the WKC Dog Show back in February.

Placing in this category were a German Shepherd, a Russian Terrier and a Samoyed.

Best in Show

Winning Reserve Best in Show and coming as the runner-up was Isaac the Norwich Terrier, while the Best in Show title went to Finn the Afghan Hound.

“He embodies everything the breed standard should be, ” handler Michael Shepherd told AKC.tv. “Not only that, but he’s also the family pet, and whatever he does he gives 110 percent.”

The next big dog show on the conformation calendar will be the Houston World Series of Dog Shows, with over 10,000 entrants, which will be shown live on AKC.tv on Friday and Saturday, July 20-21.
