Are you looking to treat your pup to something special for National Ice Cream Month? It turns out so is PetSmart, as they are offering free sundaes at select locations.

July is National Ice Cream Month, and while most forms of the frozen treat are actually not safe for dogs, either because of chocolate or the use of xylitol, there are some dog-friendly options out there. And in honor of this delicious month, PetSmart is ready to treat our pups right.

According to People Magazine, select locations of PetSmart that also include one of their PetsHotel facilities will be handing out special sundaes to our pups on July 20 and 21. That’s right there are actually two days of frozen goodness for our doggy friends to enjoy.

Pups who come in with their owners on either of those days will be able to enjoy a dog-friendly ice cream sundae that is topped with a special doggy treat as well. (It wouldn’t be a true sundae without that topping after all.)

As with any free treat, it is while supplies last, which means if you want to grab one of these dog-friendly, four-ounce sweet treats, you will have to get their early. And who wouldn’t want to take advantage of such a special offering from PetSmart, especially since the only pups who usually get the honor of these sundaes are those who stay overnight in the PetsHotel or who take part in Doggie Day Camp?

If your local PetSmart is not participating in this freebie, but you still want to treat your pup to a frosty sundae, make sure to avoid any ice cream that contains xylitol. This means avoiding human ice cream in many cases, as it can lead to vomiting, bloating, discomfort, and even diarrhea, which would completely ruin all of the fun of enjoying a sundae on a hot summer day.

We really love the fact that PetSmart is getting their sundae on for National Ice Cream Month. The fact that they are giving away free treats to our furry friends makes us smile and hopefully it will make our pups happy too.
