Doris Day, famed both as an actress and lover of animals, passed away recently. But her hotel remains as one of California’s dog-friendliest places.

We loved Doris Day in movies such as That Touch Of Mink and Pillow Talk.  But even as film fans mourned when Day passed away in May at age 97, pet lovers honored her as a true advocate for animals.

And the hotel that Doris co-owned in Carmel, California remains as one of the dog-friendliest places to stay on the Left Coast.

Doris Day created a hotel that welcomes dogs and their humans

Day was the co-owner of the Cypress Inn in Carmel, California, known as one of the state’s most beloved hotels that welcome dogs, reported the Los Angeles Times.

When Doris died in May 2019, residents of the city visited the hotel with flowers to honor her. Others turned to social media to recall their joys in staying with their pets at the Cypress Inn.

And while the hotel also is decorated with posters celebrating Day’s film legacy, it’s her decision to welcome dogs that will live on as long as the inn’s doors are open.

Day, together with businessman Dennis LeVett, delighted in making sure that the hotel was as pet friendly as possible.

Doris Day’s hotel has a Yappy Hour

Aside from her hotel, Doris devoted much of her time after retiring from her acting career to rescuing pets.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation and Doris Day Animal League both focused on animal welfare, rescuing and healing pets in need.

But Day’s delight in the joys of dogs as well as her sense of humor continue to shine through at the hotel. The hotel’s Instagram page is overflowing with praise from visitors, who of course include photos of their pets.

The website notes that the restaurant within the hotel, Terry’s Lounge, includes a “pet-friendly Yappy Hour.”

Ranked as a pet-friendly city, the location includes water bowls and doggie treats at many local businesses. And yes, there are doggie pick-up bags and a place to bathe your pup after playing on the beach in the Courtyard at Cypress Inn.
