In announcing that he was running for president, Beto O’Rourke did a feature with Vanity Fair Magazine. But it was his dog Artemis that really stole the show, both on the cover and in the feature itself.

Political dogs are nothing new and when it comes to running for office, plenty of politicians bring their dogs with them to remind the world that they are just like everyone else. Even Elizabeth Warren had her dog with her when she announced her candidacy. And now Beto O’Rourke is joining the pup party, as he included Artemis in his Vanity Fair feature.

However, while fans of O’Rourke may have been reading the Vanity Fair article to learn more about the candidate, we were all about Artemis and his ability to tell a story without any words. Even Elle Magazine was quick to point out that it was Artemis’ lack of concern for the camera that stole the show.

Thanks to Instagram, we got a chance to see a few of the pictures included in the feature. Not only does Artemis make an appearance on the cover of the magazine, but he also shows up in a few other pictures. And every time the pup appears, it is his clear lack of concern that there is a camera pointing at him that makes him the ultimate focus of the picture.

Clearly Beto O’Rourke knows that Artemis can be a scene stealer. Not only did he strategically bring his dog to be a part of his political announcement, but on social media, we rarely if ever see the pup appear. In fact, on Facebook there have only been two posts featuring Artemis. And considering Artemis is not the only family dog, it does make sense that O’Rourke may not want to either play favorites or make his dogs the focus of public attention.

However, with Artemis joining the family for the Vanity Fair shoot, it is clear that perhaps the pup is the secret to political success. After all, as dog lovers, we are always excited to see a pup make an appearance reminding people that a candidate for a political office is more like every day people than they may otherwise appear.

Rather than being a side character in this spread, Artemis becomes a star in her own right. She is more than just a scene stealer, this dog is a genius.

Now we just have to wait to see if Artemis makes more appearances with O’Rourke throughout his run for office, or if this was a one time thing. If it was the only time we get to see the pup in the spotlight, it was a worthy outing. And if this is just the beginning, perhaps Artemis can be the key to the Democrat’s success.
