Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson’s dog Nash is also into fitness.

Though she retired officially in 2012, former Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson is still very much into fitness, and she’s even gotten her dog into the act.

Johnson was part of the 2008 US women’s gymnastics team in the Beijing Olympics along with Nastia Liukin, Chellsie Memmel, Samantha Peszek, Alicia Sacramone, Bridget Sloan. That team ultimately won silver in the team all-around.

Johnson won the gold medal in her specialty, the balance beam, and took silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercise.

According to a video posted last week on her Instagram, Nash the Golden Retriever helped out with the workout by volunteering as a weight while she did squats.

Dog O’Day learned of this from a Team USA repost on Instagram.

Given that male Golden Retrievers average around 65-75 pounds, according to the American Kennel Club, and Johnson’s height (4 feet 11 inches), it isn’t exactly surprising that this experiment didn’t go so well. But it still looks fun.

Nash has his own Instagram account you can follow at @nashmanthegolden, When he’s not helping Mom with her workout, he enjoys hiking, playing fetch, and spending time with his girlfriend Paisley.

Given that they live in Nashville, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Nash is friends with celebrity dogs like Moose McCreery, Poochie Bryan, the Nashville Predators’ team dog Smash, or members of the flyball teams the Music City Road Dogs or the Smashville Speedsters.

Johnson also won season eight of Dancing With the Stars in 2009, and in 2012 competed on the All-Star edition, where she was the runner-up to TV personality Melissa Rycroft, a former winner of The Bachelor.
