Flyball: 2018 NAFA Regional champions announced

Which flyball clubs were the 2018 NAFA regional champions?

At their January meeting, the leaders of the North American Flyball Association (NAFA) announced the 2018 NAFA regional champions and MVPs.

If you aren’t familiar with flyball, it is a canine sport that is essentially a cross between NHRA drag racing and the Olympic 4X100 meter relay, and we have an introduction to the sport here.

Region 1, which covers Michigan and Ohio, saw Fur in a Blur (Facebook here) crowned the champion club in the Regular class, with no Multibreed champion.

Region 2 covers western Ontario, and saw Spring Loaded sweep the Regular and Multibreed divisions. They are one of the sport’s most historic dynasties, similar to the Los Angeles Lakers, New England Patriots or Toronto Maple Leafs, and can be followed on Facebook.

Region 3 covers Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, and there Animal Inn (website) was crowned champion (no Multibreed champ). Animal Inn was one of the first clubs registered in the early 1980s.

In Region 4, which covers Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Wisconsin, the Canine Dirt Diggers (website) were awarded the championship (no Multibreed).

Region 5 covers Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, and it saw the Lone Star Ruffnecks (Facebook) take the Regular title while the Houston-area Texas Twisters (website) claimed Multibreed.

Region 6 covers Arizona, Nevada and Utah, and saw Crazy Train (website) sweep both categories.

Region 7 covers British Columbia, Oregon and Washington, saw Langley, British Columbia’s Run Free (website) as the Pacific Northwest’s best Regular club, while the Seattle-area Jet City Jumpers (website) won the Multibreed class.

Region 8 covers Canada’s Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and featured the Holeshot Racers (Facebook) winning the title (no Multibreed).

Region 9, covering North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia, had Fur Fun (website) taking both titles.

Region 10 covers the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, and Prepare for Takeoff (website) was named the Atlantic Maritimes’ top club (no Multibreed).

Region 11 covers Florida, and the best Regular club in the Sunshine State was Celtic Mayhem (Facebook), while the Barkaholics (Facebook) were the winners in Multibreed.

Region 12 covers Alberta, Idaho and Montana, and saw Northern Power Paws (website) winning (no Multibreed).

Region 13 covers Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, and 2 Fast Fur U proved they were the best in New England by sweeping both classes.

Region 14 covers Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee, and saw Chattanooga Chomp win the Regular title while the Dixie Flyers won the Multibreed title.

In Region 15, which covers Delaware, Washington DC, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, Blue Ridge Blast took the Regular championship while Happily Evfur After claimed the Multibreed championship.

Region 16 covers California, and the Bay Racers (website) were the Golden State’s Regular champions, with the Pacific Pups (Facebook) the best in Multibreed.

Region 17 covers Hawaii, and did not crown a regional champion.

Region 18 covers Alaska, where Alaska Dogs Gone Wild (website) was the championship club (no Multibreed).

Region 19 covers Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming, and saw the Agents of Chaos (Facebook) emerge as the top club (no Multibreed).

Region 20 covers eastern Ontario and Quebec, where the Ottawa-based Muscle Memory (website) reigned supreme (no Multibreed).

The Omaha Speed Racers (website) swept Region 21, which covers Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.

Region 22 covers Newfoundland and Labrador., and Region 23 covers Puerto Rico, but neither region crowned champions this year.

The overall 2018 Regular champions were Spring Loaded, while the overall Multibreed champions were Fur Fun.
