Luke Bryan adopts senior dog from shelter
Luke Bryan is the latest country star to adopt a pup recently.
Country music star Luke Bryan and his wife Caroline have just adopted a senior dog named Poochie from a shelter.
Poochie was in the care of Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue in Nashville after being surrendered by his previous owners due to allergies.
At 18 years old in human years, Poochie is quite elderly indeed – that makes him about 104 in dog years.
Proverbs 12:10 states, “A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel” (New International Version). It seems a very fitting name for a shelter. (Here’s why you should consider adopting a shelter dog, and here are some tips for dealing with a new senior dog.)
Dog O’Day learned of this news through People Magazine.
“We often step in and pull seniors, sickly and injured animals who are likely to be overlooked,” Lavonne Redferrin, founder and director of Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue, told People, before adding that she suspects there will be a song about this at some point.
Bryan has released a previous song about a dog before, so it’s not that farfetched.
“Little Boys Grow Up and Dogs Get Old” from his 2015 album Kill the Lights, is about his childhood Lab Bandit. (It’s also on our list of the best country songs about dogs.)
For those who aren’t especially familiar with country music, Bryan is known for his blindingly white teeth and skinny jeans, and along with Keith Urban is one of two musicians with country backgrounds to serve as judges on American Idol, which boasts fellow dog-loving country artists in Carrie Underwood and Scotty McCreery among its winners. (McCreery and his wife recently adopted a Lab puppy named Moose.)
Some of Bryan’s most well-known hits include (in chronological order) “All My Friends Say,” “Rain is a Good Thing,” “Country Girl (Shake It for Me),” “Drink a Beer,” and most recently, “Most People are Good.”
