Some major restaurants want your pup to feel welcome too, even when they can’t come in. And thanks to secret menus for dogs, you and your pooch can enjoy a treat together.
Our dogs are our constant companions, and while we don’t always have them with us (for the most part), when we do, we want them to enjoy themselves just like we do. This means that if we stop to pick up something to drink or eat, we try to find something for them as well, just so we don’t get the dreaded sad puppy eyes.
But rather than find the safest thing on the human menu at some major restaurants, it may be time to learn about some secret menus that are all about the dogs. From Starbucks (which many of us knew about already) to Dairy Queen, there are some surprisingly dog friendly restaurants, even if you can’t bring your pup inside with you to enjoy their treats.
There are a lot of places trying to cater to the dog lovers of the world, and thanks to dog friendly patios and pop up shops for pups, there are a lot more options when you want to enjoy a nice day out with your canine companion. But thanks to some big chains, you can still treat your pup right with their secret menus.
Starbucks
Many of us already know about the Starbucks Puppuccino, at least if we are dog owners with a penchant for coffee. But if you have never ordered one before, it is a small cup filled with whipped cream just for your pup. Considering the amount of sugar and fat is in whipped cream, we definitely don’t recommend getting this all the time, but as a special treat once in a while, this is fun way to make sure your dog is spoiled when you need a caffeine fix.
Sprinkles
Did you know that Sprinkles, the destination for delicious cupcakes, has a special cupcake just for dogs? We didn’t either until Reader’s Digest spilled the beans. Unlike the human cupcakes the store offers, these pup friendly cupcakes are made with no sugar and have a frosting that is actually yogurt based.
Shake Shack
Shake Shack is another chain that loves our pups too, and that’s why they have a special menu for dogs that includes not only a Bag O’ Bones, but also a Pooch-ini. The Bag O’ Bones is exactly what it sounds like, a bag filled with five dog biscuits that were made for the company. And the Pooch-ini is a vanilla custard with two dog biscuits. The custard cup is not recommended for smaller pups, and as with anything you give your dog it is always good to make sure it’s okay from a veterinarian first.
Sonic Drive-In
While Sonic may not have a dedicated menu for pups, if your pooch is with you when you order, often times they will be given their very own treat when your order arrives. Of course, as with any restaurant, not all places will do this, but if your Sonic is filled with dog lovers, then you will likely get lucky (or at least your furry friend will).
In ‘N’ Out
In ‘N’ Out lovers, did you know you could get a Pup Patty for your pooch? Well you can, and it isn’t loaded with things your dog can’t have. Instead, the Pup Patty is a plain burger patty that has no salt added to it. And it comes in a bag just for your dog, which gives a whole new meaning to the term doggy bag.
Dairy Queen
At Dairy Queen, you can order your dog a Pup Cup, which is simply a cup of vanilla soft serve that is topped off with a dog treat. We definitely think you should make sure it is okay with a vet first, as this the company’s regular soft serve ice cream (which means dairy and sugar are some of the main ingredients).
Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt
If you are lucky enough to have a Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream and Yogurt location near you, then you already know how delicious their offerings are. Which is why we love that they also have special treats for our pups. Depending on where you are, you may get your pup a Dogster, which is a peanut butter based treat that is vet approved (and they also have a mint flavored Dogster as well). Or there is the Frosty Paws, a soy based ice-cream found in Redondo Beach, California.
When it comes to treating our pups while out and about, it’s always nice to have restaurants that will have something for them specifically. And if you are looking for even more dog friendly options, you may want to check out Bring Fido, which is a site that helps you find places that are pup appropriate.
