Elizabeth Warren may have announced that she is forming a presidential exploratory committee for 2020, but voters are more focused on her dog Bailey.
Massachusetts Senator, Elizabeth Warren, may have announced that she was forming an exploratory committee in consideration of a presidential run in 2020, but what really has many of us talking? It may surprise you to know it is her golden retriever, Bailey, who has our attention.
According to The Boston Globe, voters are going to see a lot more of Bailey because the pup is actually increasing our interest in the politician. And a statement from the exploratory committee even said, “Stay tuned for Bailey appearances on the trail.”
Whether you are a fan of the Senator or not, many of us love dogs, and when we see one we want to know more about them. Plus, for many of us we are more favorable to dogs and their owners, which means that seeing Warren with Bailey makes us like her more and possibly even trust her.
The president and CEO of a Public Relations agency in Boston, Scott Ferson, explained that, “everyone loves dogs. It humanizes, if you will, a candidate. Because we say that dogs are good judges of character.”
And this makes perfect sense. We pay attention to how our dogs react to other people and their environment, which means seeing the Senator with her own pup in public leaves us with a good impression of Warren.
Bailey would not be the first political dog to get the spotlight, as we have often seen dogs in the White House, and Senator Edward Kennedy even had a Portuguese water dog that he would bring with him to the Capitol. And as a golden retriever, Bailey’s general temperament actually makes him a good fit for a life in the political arena, at least based on what the American Kennel Club has to say about the breed.
Golden retrievers are described as being intelligent, friendly, and devoted, while also being serious workers, eager-to-please, obedient, and trustworthy. All of which are positive traits for such an important pup. And while Bailey should be able to handle the high-speed political life, voters will be happy to see a dog on the campaign trail.
As Ferson pointed out, “Voters cannot get enough of dogs.” So, we won’t get tired of Bailey making appearances alongside Elizabeth Warren, and perhaps it will give her the boost she needs to make her latest political endeavor successful.
While we don’t know if Bailey will give Warren enough of a bump that she even becomes the democratic presidential nominee, at least we have something to look forward to politically – a new dog of the people.
Are you surprised that Bailey is likely to make Elizabeth Warren look good in the eyes of the people? As a voter, do you think seeing the golden retriever on the campaign trail makes a difference? Tell us what you think in the comments.
