While we may not actually talk to our dogs like they do in animated movies, a year old study says that women are better able to understand pups. Which is apparently why dogs are more likely to obey them over men.

There is currently a study from 2017 that seems to be making the rounds again which indicates that our dogs are more likely to obey women than men. And while this may seem odd in some cases, there is actually a legitimate reason for this obedience.

According to the study published in the Royal Society of Open Science, women tend to be more able to understand dogs than men due to what they described as a “higher sensitivity to emotional stimuli.” In the study, researchers looked at the different types of growls that a dog emits, and determined that not only do people who work closely with pups but also women are more likely to understand the emotions behind the different growls.

While this is not to say that dogs do not obey men, it seems that they will more often obey women because there appears to be a general sense of understanding between pups and the women in their lives, as PopSugar points out. The study revealed that “women are likely more empathetic and sensitive to others’ emotions,” which in turn helps them to identify the reason a dog may be growling, such as due to a playful game or a more serious need to protect.

Although this study may be a year old, not only is it still relevant, but with it having made the rounds again online it is something that has once again drawn people’s attention. And we completely understand why. It is interesting to have a study that looks at how dogs obey the different genders. At the same time, the results both make sense in some instances, while also being a bit surprising.

While there is no set rule for obedience, we understand why the study might have found that our pups are more likely to obey the women in their lives. Empathy can go a long way in forming an emotional connection. Of course, no matter what your gender is, if you work with animals in any capacity, you are going to form a connection that gives them a sense of who is the boss.
