An Oklahoma City animal shelter is hoping pets around the Sooner State find forever homes this holiday season.

Just in time for Christmas, Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is slashing their adoption fees in an effort to find forever families for their pets.

This drive is being called “Feline Navidad/Hound for the Holidays,” according to OKC’s KWTV News 9. The event began on Wednesday, Dec. 12, and runs until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 23.

Dogs, puppies and kittens will be available for $30, which is half of the usual $60 adoption fee.

Dogs who have been with the shelter “an extended time,” and cats older than six months, will be available for free. There are over two hundred animals available for adoption right now.

All available pets have been spayed or neutered, they’ve been treated for worms and are already up to date on their vaccinations. They also have already been microchipped.

“We did 37 adoptions on the first day which that’s a good day for any day, but for a Wednesday, that’s a really good day. So we’re looking to do more,” Jon Gary, superintendent of OKC Animal Welfare, told News 9.

If you can’t adopt at the moment, you could still help out by donating to their food and toy drives.

“The shelter is such a stressful environment, that we look for toys and enrichment items that we can give them to and enrich their stay while they’re here,” Gary said.

OKC Animal Welfare is located at 2811 S.E. 29th Street. For more information, see their Facebook page or call them at 405-297-3100. You can also find out more information of their website.
