Canine college football roundup: Bowl season edition
It’s college football bowl season as 2018 winds to a close, and our dogs are still cheering on their favorite teams.
The NCAA Division I college football bowl season starts Saturday, Dec. 15, and there are a good number of canine schools taking part. Unless otherwise noted, all games with be shown on ESPN.
Saturday the Mountain West’s No. 21 Fresno State Bulldogs will face the Pac-12’s Arizona State Sun Devils in the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Tuesday, Dec. 18 the MAC’s Northern Illinois Huskies will face the UAB Blazers from Conference USA at 7 p.m. ET in the Cheribundi Boca Raton Bowl.
On Saturday, Dec. 22, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will face the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the SoFi Hawaii Bowl at 10:30 p.m. ET.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves will face the Wolf Pack of Nevada in the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 1:15 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
The TaxSlayer Gator Bowl will also be an all-canine affair, as the ACC’s North Carolina State Wolfpack take on Reveille the Collie’s Texas A&M Aggies from the SEC at 7:30 p.m. ET on New Year’s Eve.
The No. 18 Mississippi State Bulldogs will tangle with the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big Ten in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day, kicking off at noon ET on ESPN2.
The Pac-12 champion No. 9 Washington Huskies will face the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes, winners of the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual at 5 p.m ET.
Finally, in another of the New Year’s Six major bowls, the SEC runner-up No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs will face the runners-up from the Big 12 in the No. 15 Texas Longhorns in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at 8:45 p.m. ET.
Altogether, there are about 40 or so bowl games being played over three weeks, which seems kind of excessive and unnecessary.
