Movie dates just got a lot easier in Texas. Dog lovers rejoice! You can now take your dog with you to the movies, which means no more needing a date.

Are you a movie buff who also loves dogs? Do you have a dog at home that you wish you could take to the movies with you? In Plano, Texas, there is now a dog-friendly movie theater for all you pet lovers out there who want some canine companionship with your entertainment.

According to the Plano Profile, if you have ever wanted to make a day of it with your pet, you finally can. On Dec. 7, K9 Cinemas in Plano opened their doors for canines and humans alike to enjoy quality entertainment together. Founded by Erik Lankford, the idea for a dog friendly movie theater came to him after he became increasingly frustrated by the fact that he was not allowed to bring his four-legged friend with him to the movies.

And if you have ever felt the same as Lankford, this is finally your chance to enjoy a movie on the big screen with your pup at your side, just like you would at home. Of course, with this opportunity come a few rules, which help to make this a pawsitive (we couldn’t resist) experience for everyone.

The rules for the theater are simple. Pet owners must clean up after their dogs (which makes sense no matter where you are), dogs must be current on all their shots and paperwork must be brought to the theater to prove it, and finally there is a maximum of two pups per person. Of course, you are also responsible for taking your pup outside if they need to use the restroom, but that should be common knowledge.

Food and drink for humans and dogs alike is available for purchase at the theater, and unlike a lot of cinemas, concessions won’t break the bank. And at least for now, movies being shown are classics, such as Elf. The theater is currently only open on the weekends, as well as for special events.

Dog owners interested in learning more about K9 Cinemas, can check out the theater’s website, which includes a K9 toy store, information on the theater, and information about upcoming movies (currently on the schedule are showings of Home Alone and Elf).

And while the theater may only be open for limited showings at this time, it seems the goal is to expand to every weekend, and hopefully even offer weekday showings. Either way, we are definitely excited that someone has finally decided to give us the best of both worlds – our pups and movies.
