WeRateDogs and ESPN teamed up to help stop cancer with “h*ck cancer” campaign.
WeRateDogs is one of the internet’s happiest brands, making Twitter and Instagram far more pleasant places. ESPN is the leading media entity in sports coverage. Together, they teamed up to fight cancer with the “h*ck cancer” campaign, which just wrapped Saturday.
As anyone familiar with Doggo Lingo knows, “heck” is usually the worst swear word in dogs’ vocabularies, so it’s often spelled with asterisks. Also, it mimics the name of an actual charity being helped by the sort-of-rerelease of the parody superhero film Once Upon a Deadpool, which we won’t repeat here because it would horrify all dogs reading (and many people, too).
WeRateDogs made special “h*ck cancer” bandannas and hats available for a limited time in their online store, and raised awareness by sharing the stories of those affected by canine cancers through their posts.
They were working with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a leading foundation dedicated to defeating the disease, as part of ESPN’s annual V Week.
The V Foundation was founded by famed college basketball coach Jim Valvano, who guided the North Carolina State Wolfpack to the championship game of the 1983 NCAA Tournament, where they upset the heavily-favored Houston Cougars.
Valvano passed away from cancer a short time after making a legendary speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards.
