Canine schools fare well in first round of Div II football playoffs

Dog-related Division II schools did well in the first round of the 2018 playoffs.
Many NCAA schools use canine-related mascots, and many more than just the big-money Division I schools play sports on Saturdays, including Division II and Division III.
The Division II football playoffs had a fair amount of canines make the 28-team field, and we’ll give you an update on how they did.
There were no canine-related schools in Super Region One.
In Super Region Two, the No. 4 seeded Bowie State Bulldogs improved to 8-3 after defeating the No. 5 seeded West Alabama Tigers 41-35. They advance to face the No. 1 seeded Valdosta State on the road in Valdosta, Ga., on Nov 24.
Also in Super Region Two, the No. 7 seed Wingate Bulldogs are now 8-3 after upsetting No. 2 seed West Georgia’s season with the 41-31 win. The Wolves end their season at 10-1, while Wingate advances to face No. 3 seed the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (10-1) in Hickory, N.C., on Nov. 24.
In Super Region Three, the No. 4 seed Indianapolis Greyhounds (9-1) toppled the No. 5 seed Tigers of Fort Hays State 38-27, advancing to face No. 1 seed Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark., on Nov. 24.
Also in Super Region Three, undefeated Ferris State advances to the second round after beating the Harding Bison 21-19. The No. 2 seed Bulldogs will welcome the No. 6 seed Northwest Missouri State Bearcats to Big Rapids, Mich., on Nov. 24.
In Super Region Four, the No. 5 seed Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves overwhelmed their Rocky Mountain Conference foes No. 4 seed Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 37-17 to advance to take on the No. 1 seed Mavericks from Minnesota State-Mankato on Nov. 24.
Also in Super Region Four, the No. 3 seed Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs fell to the No. 6 seed Texas A&M-Commerce Lions 33-27.
