The 2018 college football playoffs still have dogs in the hunt.

While much of the attention – and nearly all the money – in college sports is directed to the NCAA’s Division I schools, there are a ton more playing at the Division II or Division III level who deserve just as much attention.

The 2018 brackets for each division’s college football playoffs were announced this afternoon (Nov. 12), and many canine schools (as we here at Dog O’Day define them) still have a chance.

The Division II playoffs begin Saturday, Nov. 17, with 28 teams split into four regional sections.

The No. 4 seed Indianapolis Greyhounds from the Great Lakes Valley Conference will host the No. 5 seed Ft Hays State Tigers from the MIAA, with the winner traveling to Arkansas to face the No. 1 seeded Ouachita Baptist Tigers from the Great American Conference.

Meanwhile in the same region, the No. 2 seeded Ferris State Bulldogs from the Northern Sun host the No. 7 seed Harding Bison of the GAC.

In a different part of the country, the No. 4 seeded Bowie State Bulldogs of the CIAA will host the No. 5 seeded West Alabama Tigers out of the Gulf South, with the winner advancing to face No. 1 seeded Valdosta State.

The Gulf South’s No. 2 seed West Georgia Wolves host the Wingate Bulldogs from the South Atlantic.

Finally, the No. 5 seeded ThunderWolves of Colorado State-Pueblo travel to Rocky Mountain Conference foe No. 4 seed Colorado School of Mines to battle with the Orediggers, with the winner advancing to tangle with the No. 1 seeded Mavericks of Minnesota State-Mankato.

In the same region, the No. 3 seed Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs from the Northern Sun host the Lone Star’s No. 6 seeded Texas A&M-Commerce Lions.

Good luck to each of the teams!

The Division III college football playoffs have 32 teams and also start on Nov. 17, but none of the schools still playing have a canine nickname, which is disappointing.
