Election Day 2018 has wrapped up, and one thing is for sure: Voters agree that dogs are wonderful.

Politics are often unpleasant, but at least you get free stickers for voting.

Many states had races for governors or seats in the Senate or Congress, in addition to various state posts or county positions.

Many people stood in long lines at their polling place in order to do their small part to keep democracy going and make Leslie Knope and Jed Bartlett’s staff proud. (Parks and Rec and The West Wing references, if you aren’t familiar with Rob Lowe shows. Our pals at Hidden Remote can explain all about everything TV-related.)

Thoughts of Dog brightened people’s mornings with his customary optimism and faith in his owner’s actions:

Coconut the Samoyed couldn’t vote because she is a Canadian pupper, but she did her part in pushing people out the door to go to their polling places.

Opie helped by providing a much-needed caffeine boost:

The dogs themselves did not vote, remember, because that would be voter fraud, which would make them VERY bad dogs.

At Dog O’Day, we did our small bit towards democracy by voting in the morning, and then polling our fans on the REALLY important issues – which types of tails and ears are the cutest?

On Twitter, two votes went to “floppy ears,” while no one voted for the “pointy ears” option, despite general agreement that Alsatians are smart and Corgis are adorable. Ropy tails earned 67 percent of the vote compared to 33 percent for docked stubs, and nobody voted for flag tails, which is kind of surprising, as Golden Retrievers have flagged tails.

On Facebook, eight votes were cast for flag tails, while six were cast for ropy Beagle-like tails. No votes were cast for stubs, as Facebook polls only allow two options. Floppy ears won easily in their poll, gaining 20 votes to three votes for pointy ears.

Whether your candidates won or lost, our dogs still think we’re awesome, which is what counts, right?
