Tricky treats to keep away from dogs this Halloween
Not all human Halloween treats are safe for our doggy pals.
In fact, a lot of them can be downright harmful for our pups. (They probably aren’t that good for us, either, but it’s the beginning of the holiday season, and they taste good.)
Marshmallows probably aren’t a good idea, because of their high sugar content, and lollipops should probably be avoided because the stick might be a choking hazard.
What else should you keep far away from your pupper this Halloween?
Chocolate is usually bad, according to Dogster Magazine, because canines can’t digest caffeine very well. In smaller dogs, high caffeine amounts could even be fatal.
That means the following Nestle products are out: 100 Grand, Baby Ruth, Butterfinger, Crunch, Oh Henry, and Wonder Balls.
Instead, Purina products would be a good pet for your favorite doggo. (Purina is owned by Nestle.)
The following Hershey’s products are for humans only: 5th Avenue, Almond Joy, Heath, Hershey’s, Kit Kat, Krackel, Milk Duds, Mounds, Mr Goodbar, Reese’s, Rolo, Skor, Take 5, Whatchamacallit, Whoppers and York Peppermint Patties.
Hershey’s Gold, Payday and Zero bars don’t contain chocolate, so they wouldn’t be harmful for your dog, but they probably wouldn’t be helpful, either.
Mars, Inc. makes plenty of tasty human treats that dogs should avoid, including: 3 Musketeers, M&Ms, Mars Bars, Milky Way, Snickers and Twix.
Mars, Inc. also owns the following companies which focus on pet food/treats: Cesar, Iams, Eukanuba, Nutro Products, Pedigree and Royal Canin.
Raisins or grapes can NEVER be fed to your dog, ever. No one knows why, but something about canine digestive systems cannot handle grapes, which can cause kidney failures, comas and/or death.
Have a great Halloween, and be safe!
