The Race for the Rescues is a fundraiser for animals in need in southern California.

Attention Southern California and the Los Angeles area!

The Rescue Train is hosting the 13th annual Race for the Rescues at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles this coming Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Race for the Rescues is “a day when animal lovers of all ages come out to run, walk, shop or adopt – to help save the lives of homeless dog, cats, horses and farm animals in Southern California,” according to the event website.

There will be a 5K, 10K and Kids’ Fun Run.

100 percent of all proceeds generated will be donated to local animal welfare organizations.

If you aren’t a runner, there is also a free-to-attend expo featuring dog and cat adoptions, silent auction, food trucks and entertainment. Registration starts at 7 a.m., and the races will begin at 8:30 a.m.

According to their website, “The Rescue Train is a unique, 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill organization dedicated to eliminating animal suffering and euthanasia through hands-on rescue work, dedication to spay/neuter, education and awareness.”

You can run either the 5K or 10K with your dog, so long as he/she is spayed/neutered and on a non-retractable leash.

Raceday registration for the 5K is $40, the 10K is $44, and the Kids’ Fun Run is $27. With your dog the 5K is $55 and the 10K is $59,

A 5K is about 3.2 miles, easily walkable in 45 minutes to an hour, and a 10K is about 6.4 miles, which should be walkable in 90 minutes to two hours.

The top overall male and female racers and the top three fundraisers will receive prizes, while the top three finishers in each age category will also receive medals.

The animal adoptions begin at 7:30 a.m. and run until noon, and you will need to provide a valid form of identification and valid form of payment in order to adopt, and a collar/leash for a dog or carrier for a cat, although the organization you adopt from may have additional requirements.

Another Race for the Rescues was held in Irvine, Calif., in September.
