Purdue Vet Med Dog Jog this Saturday

The annual Dog Jog at Purdue University will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, and registration is still open.

Attention western and central Indiana!

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is holding their annual Dr Skip Jackson Dog Jog 5K on Saturday, Sept. 22, and your pup is welcome to race, too!

Human registration is $25 until Friday, Sept. 21 at midnight, and dog registration is $5 with the same deadline. Registration the day of the race is possible, too, though the human fee is $30 on raceday, dog fees will stay the same.

For sameday registration, there is no guarantee that T-shirts or dog bandannas will still be available.

Check-in on race day begins at 7 a.m. The race will begin at 8 a.m. at Lynn Hall on the Purdue campus in West Lafayette.

All participants are required to fill out a waiver and bring it to check-in on race day. The form can be found  on the race website.

A 5K is slightly more than three miles (five kilometers is 3.2 miles, to be exact), which is easily walkable in about 45 minutes to an hour.

Primary sponsors of the event include Purina Pro Plan, Royal Canin, Banfield Pet Hospital, Valparaiso-based McAfee Animal Hospital and West Lafayette dog daycare Pooch At Play, which is operated by Purdue alumni.

Purdue CVM is one of thirty veterinary schools in the U.S., and the only one in Indiana. It is currently hosting its annual Purdue Veterinary Conference,

Purdue University’s Boilermakers compete in sports in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference, and students (particularly English majors) all over the country have been greatly helped by their Online Writing Lab, or OWL.

Fellow Big Ten schools Illinois, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin also have vet schools.

Besides the main campus in West Lafayette, the Purdue University System also includes IUPUC in Columbus, IUPUI in Indianapolis,  Purdue Fort Wayne and Purdue University Northwest, in addition to online programs.
