Do you remember watching Saturday morning cartoons and The Jetsons? If so, then you probably remember Astro, their lovable Great Dane.

Growing up in the late 80s and early 90s, Saturday morning cartoons were the one thing you never wanted to miss. You would pour a bowl of cereal and sit in front of the TV to watch shows like The Jetsons and The Smurfs. And of course, even then it was the goody boys like Astro and Scooby-Doo who had my heart.

Of all the good boys on our screens when we watched those classic cartoons, I would have to say that Astro from The Jetsons was one of my favorites. And even though I didn’t learn that Astro was a Great Dane until recently, that doesn’t even matter, as this pup was always so much fun.

Much like Scooby-Doo, Astro had the ability to speak, even if he couldn’t have complete conversations, and he had an issue with the letter R in words. In fact, one of his more common phrases throughout The Jetsons would have to be, “I ruv roo, Reorge,” which translates to “I love you, George.” Although, his signature phrase of “Ruh-roh, Reorge,” was always a particular favorite.

And considering Astro was introduced in the fourth episode of the series, he was a part of the show from the very beginning. Of course, his first introduction was part of an episode where George made it clear that he didn’t really want a dog, but when the robot dog George gets to prove a point, that robot is unable to catch a burglar. In fact, the burglar sets George up to be chased by the robo dog and it is Astro who ends up saving the day.

Over the course of the series, Astro proved that he was as much a valuable member of the family as everyone else. And even when he found out that he had a millionaire owner before The Jetsons, his love for the family led him home to them.

While Astro was often getting in some form of trouble or mischief alongside Elroy, the family’s son, there was never a point where this pup was so bad that he wasn’t considered a valuable part of the clan. And even when George would get upset with the pup, by the end of every episode, everything would turn out okay and the family would be back together again.

Episode after episode, Astro gave us reasons to laugh and smile. He was always there for the different members of the family. And in many ways, he was as much a good boy for us, as he was for his family as well.

Astro will always be a Jetson, no matter what. And while this classic cartoon may not be giving us new episodes, at least we can go back and enjoy the classics on Boomerang or even with the help of Amazon Prime.

Were you a fan of Astro on The Jetsons? Did you love the cartoon as much as we do? Tell us your thoughts about this classic cartoon pup in the comments.
